I realize that it's now 2009, but these paintings, with the exception of one that just needed a few touch ups, were all finished last year. Enjoy!

The lines and curves nature can create with sand have a certain beauty, and I tried to bring that about on canvas.
In hindsight I think this would've looked better on a longer canvas so I could get a wider view.

I've been experimenting recently with puting blue and orange tones together. No particular reason, just like those two colours. I put the tiny house in at the end when I realized it looked like some otherworldly landscape, and wanted to depict the feeling of being lonely and forgotten.

All artists need to paint an elephant at one time or another, it's like a rite of passage!
I wanted to do away with any kind of distracting background, so I opted for a close up. I also decided that gray wasn't interesting enough to be the only colour in an entire painting, so I went with green. No doubt elephants would want to be green if they had a choice!

While shopping at IKEA recently, UK Mike's girlfriend almost bought one of their paintings for her new apartment, but before she did, Mike suggested that instead of buying an IKEA print, why not get me to paint a copy of it, and have a 'real' painting!
And here it is! The largest painting I've yet done. I must say, it's nice to be thought of like that, thanks guys!
If IKEA ever sees this I hope they don't hurt me...

If you're wondering who this is, well she doesn't actually exist. This is my first try at a portrait-type painting using only my imagination, plus a little help from various pictures of Asian girls, yukatas, and yukata designs which I used as a reference.
I painted this as a compliment to ''Hopes and Dreams', and will most likely do a few more in a similar style to eventually make up a set.

Due to the popularity of my 'Red Leaves and Torii' painting, I had the idea of doing more torii in different locations, but using the same idea of combining different shades of red and orange.
It ended up being a lot more complex than I thought, elements such as light and the direction of shadow, colour and getting the ocean to look somewhat natural all took a lot of time, and I'm still not really sure I'm satisfied with the end result.
This particular scene doesn't actually exist, but was taken from various photographs of torii, sunsets and oceans. Hope you like it.
