Do As Tokyo Does | Big Joe in Gorilla Park | (Entered Oct. 29, 2009) |

What do you do if you're a dingy, grey suburb located outside of Tokyo and want to reinvent yourself? If you're the town of Kawaguchi, Saitama, famous for being dingier and greyer than most of the suburbs bordering Tokyo, you build a statue of a gorilla in a park and then give it an original name such as 'Gorilla Park'. Dinginess begone! The park is also host to a geocache, which is why I was even there, well actually why my buddy Scott was there with me in tow as an observer. Talk to Scott if you aren't familiar with geocaching and want to learn more. I'm sure his geocache loving soul will be more than happy to explain it. You might figure that a park called 'Gorilla Park' would have a passing connection to monkeys other than just a statue of one, but the only other thing the park has is a BMX racing course. I'm sure the connection is obvious, but for the life of me I just can't see it.
