Shinjuku has the honour of being the busiest, most crowded section of Tokyo. Last time they checked, about 2 million people were passing through Shinjuku station daily. Needless to say, once the novelty's worn off, it's not a place you really want to go unless you need to. The mayhem of the station is enough to curb my enthusiasm most of the time. Shinjuku's the place that comes to mind when thinking of business and modern Japan. Divided roughly into two parts, the West side (shown in the photographs) deals mostly with business and is the more impressive looking of the two. With so many massively high buildings around, the ground is in the shade almost all day. Some of the tallest buildings have observation decks on top which let you look out on the vastness of Tokyo, a fantastic (if not depressing) sight. The East side is the shopping and entertainment area (including the red light district) and there is no limit to the things you can do and buy there. You could literally spend a lifetime eating at all the restaurants, and trying to shop at every store located around here. A fun place to go occasionally, just remember to bring your wallet and some extra energy.
