The second of three centerpieces for my upcoming art show in November at the Pink Cow. I began working on this almost three months ago, and the devil, as they say, is in the details. This is the first time I've painted snow or ice, and I had a hell of a time making it look realistic. This is the third in the torii series, you must know by now that I love torii.
Huge thank you goes out to Chris over at http://i-cjw.com, an amazing writer and photographer, his website is one of the best I've come across in Japan. After seeing his photograph of the torii on the top of Mt. Kiso-Koma, one of my all time favourite photos, I asked him if I could use it as a reference for a painting, and he graciously allowed me to do so.
