I'll admit I used to sneer at abstract and minimalist paintings. Doing things like painting a whole canvas one colour, or just painting a bunch of straight lines, seemed more like a cop-out than an actual attempt to create art. However nowadays I find myself drawn to these kind of paintings. Perhaps having focused on art for a long time now I'm more able to understand the statement and/or feeling behind such works. And after all, if they're hanging in the National Gallery of Canada these artists must be doing something right. Anyway I wanted to experiment with minimalism myself, but still keep it within the realm of reality.
